WHO I AM

Hey, I’m Carolyn, and let me be real with you—I’m a recovering AVOID-AHOLIC.

​

It's not easy to admit, but for the longest time, I was stuck in this cycle of anxiety, struggle, and unhappiness, without even realizing it. MOST PEOPLE DON’T.

Ever looked around and felt like everyone else had their life together while you were just putting on a show? Yeah, that was me.

I spent years caught up in overthinking, stress, and self-doubt, like I was in a never-ending mental tug-of-war. Does that sound familiar?

It all goes back to my childhood
(doesn’t it always?).

My avoidance of negative feelings started young.  Even as a young girl I had decided that negative emotions were meant to be hidden, locked away in a drawer, and avoided. I thought all that mattered was the mere appearance of happiness.

 

I stuffed every negative feeling deep down and locked it away, letting it sit stagnant in my body and fester in my subconscious mind.

So, eventually, I did what any normal girl with ADHD would do as soon as she was able; I rebelled against my mother and became an actress. I saw the stage as a safe space for me to feel all of these big feelings. Under those bright lights, I could unload my negative emotions while playing with someone else entirely. I never had to feel them myself (again, avoidance much?). 

BEFORE LONG...

I became a wife and a mom. Becoming a mother brought me a lot of joy, but it didn’t fix what I had spent my life storing up deep down.

 

The stress of my relationship and motherhood led all these negative feelings to start bubbling to the surface.

 

I was barely holding it all together, and then I went through a painful divorce, lost my home, and filed for bankruptcy.

 

It had finally come to a breaking point and the stress began to manifest itself into very serious health issues. I developed life-threatening high blood pressure, premature heart disease, and chronic stress.

While my body was breaking down under the strain of my expert-level emotional avoidance, on the surface things looked great.

 

My career was taking off. I was on national television as a health coach, I had a book deal, my hair was conditioned, and my social media was curated. And I was unbearably unhappy with major imposture syndrome!

It was during my third (yes, THIRD!) ER visit that my doctor finally had to spell it out for me. He told me that if I didn’t grab the wheel my car would soon be headed straight off a cliff. It was the reality check I needed. I decided it was time to pull this car over and start paying attention to how my thoughts and emotions were affecting my choices, behavior, and overall wellbeing.

My Body Was Breaking Down.

It's not easy to admit, but for the longest time, I was stuck in this cycle of anxiety, struggle, and unhappiness, without even realizing it. MOST PEOPLE DON’T.

I began taking care of my emotional self for the first time in my life, deep cleaned the mess in my head, and the toxins from my body by healing the inner child who made limiting beliefs, (she didn’t know any better? How could she?)

 

I learned how to clear out the negative energy that had been trapped in my body which was clouding my ability to see the whole picture of my life. By desensitizing my triggers, I was able to retrain and reprogram my mind with more thoughts and habits that served me. I put in the work and started building healthy habits, nurturing my relationships, and discovered how to believe in myself. For the first time, I was able to show up authentically and powerfully lead the most amazing, abundant, happy, and healthy life!

Most People Have it Backwards.

You see, most people are operating under a wrong, and frankly dangerous, assumption. They think that they need to accomplish something extraordinary in order to earn the right to believe in themselves.

 

This is a damaging belief because you are all capable of more, and you must know this to be true.

 

So, this is one of the first things that we work to overcome. You must believe in yourself first. Once you trust yourself you can get out of your own way and achieve personal and professional success.
